This catalogue includes all i.e. the good, the bad and the ugly feature films, shorts, seriesi.e. including television, streaming and web series, documentaries and children’s screen texts made in sign language, with d/DeafThose identifying as deaf (physically living with hearing loss or low/no hearing) and Deaf (a cultural identity connected with Deaf Community and sign language use), and anywhere in between. participants or about deafness, from the silent film era to the present day.
About the database
This data is drawn from our original research into sign language cinemas, cross-referenced against existing publications (Fougère and Kitchen 2017, Jouannet 1999, Norden 1994 and Schuchman 2006) plus online databases including IMDb, Allocine.fr, Metacritic, Wikipedia, Rotten Tomatoes and national film industry sites.
