After the comedy series made a joke about deaf actor Marlee Matlin, she contacted Seth MacFarlane to be on the show. From season 10 onwards she features in multiple episodes as Peter’s colleague Stella, including one in which she gives him advice when he’s temporarily deafened (series duration 1999-)
